There is a male age in the household, but no male under age 10 but sometimes these census counts have errors, and the household does include a female under The town of Hector is now in Schuyler Co.

I am not finding a Thomas Auten on the U. Perhaps the family was still in NJ in Assuming the Thomas Auton in Hector in is the one your looking for, then perhaps he relocated there between andin which case searching for church records in the vicinity of Hector would be your starting point. However, from my own experience in searching in Seneca Co.

Few exist. You may want to check with local Historical Societies in and near Hector. A baptism record for the younger Thomas is not in the Raritan Church records again you probably already searched there and know thisbut if you haven't done so already, you may want to look at some of the other New Jersey churches nearby Readington in particular.

Frelinghuysen is most remembered for his religious contributions in the Raritan Valley during the beginnings of the First Great Awakening.

Several of his descendants became influential theologians and politicians throughout American history. Frelinghuysen was graduated from the University of Lingen inand he was ordained as a minister of the German Reformed Church in For fourteen months he was a minister in Loegumer Voorwerk, in East Friesland, and then for a short time he was co-rector of the Latin school in Enkhuizen, in the Netherlands.

In contrast to the staid orthodoxy of many of the Presbyterians and much of the New York Dutch Reformed Clergy, Frelinghuysen's evangelistic preaching penetrated the raw frontier of early eighteenth-century life of New Jersey.

He attempted to ingrain within the listener a deep conviction of sin.Dutch craftsmen, day laborers, and farmers were among the first to settle along the Raritan. A good many, though they bore names like Ten Eyck, Vroom, and Van Nest, were actually descendants of Huguenots, Protestants who, during the previous century, had fled French persecution for tolerant Amsterdam. There they assimilated completely, learning the language, embracing the Dutch way of life, and marrying within the community.

By the time Huguenots and their families re-settled in America, they were considered Dutch rather than French. As settlement continued, the number of East and West Jersey proprietors grew. Inweary of contending with schemes, confusion, divided interests, and widespread resentment against authority, all of them surrendered to the British Crown.

Yet opposition and disputes about land rights, continued. This led to riots in Because few Somerset County newcomers were trained as builders or architects, most erected their homes with the help of sons and neighbors. Most built with materials at hand, like wood, chips, or rubble, bound by clay reinforced with hogs hair or straw.

Some used stone. So the stones were probably quarried, cut, hauled, and dressed by slave labor— either white bonded servants, emigrants paying off their passage, or black slaves purchased in New York. Other colonists built with brick that, supposedly, had served as ballast on Dutch cargo ships. Their kitchens boasted massive fireplaces with chimneys deep enough to smoke meat, and broad, walk-in hearths that could accommodate an array of cooking hooks, pots, warming pans, skillets, and teapots.

Nearby shelves boasted wooden mortars, tinder boxes, drinking vessels, simple wooden trenchers, and pewter platters. Additional fireplaces, usually located in rooms directly opposite the kitchens, provided extra warmth during the wintry season.

As there was no indoor plumbing, Dutch farmers dug wells and built outhouses nearby.

They also added functional outbuildings, like quarters for livestock, open-slatted cretches for corn storage, and cow barns. Their barns, far larger than their homes, were framed with thick, heavy cross beams secured with homemade wooden dowels. Many of those records have survived to this day. Since the early days of Christianity, people have been baptized, married and burried by the church. The church has not always kept records of these events. In the Netherlands, the oldest surviving church records date back to the sixteenth century. For most regions, church records start in the seventeenth century. In general, church records start earlier in the southern and western parts of the Netherlands than they do in the nothern and eastern parts.

When the civil registration was introduced, churches were required to hand over their registrations. To this day, most of the church registrations can be found in the provincial archives because of this decision. In Dutch these are called Doopboeken, Trouwboeken and Begraafboeken. They are often referred to using the acronym DTB. Catholic church records were usually kept in Latin whereas Dutch reformed church records were usually kept in Dutch.

Baptismal records record the baptism of a child. For most religions, the baptism took place within two weeks of the birth. An exception is the baptist church, which only baptized adults.
